Storm digs deep, holds off Stealth

U13 Girls’ Soccer

The U13 Girls’ Storm played their hearts out on Sunday, and appreciated the sun and warmth that have been missing in their last number of games.

They were down a number of players, with only one sub against the SDU Stealth, but you would have never known that watching them play. Sedona Allen drove the ball into the net within the first five minutes of play. Storm took control of the game with another nice goal by Mika Schutz shortly thereafter.

The girls kept the ball in SDU’s end the majority of the first half. However, Hilary August in net had some amazing saves. The defensive line led by Cassie Gibb did an excellent job of clearing the ball.

Things took a turn at the beginning of the second half, when SDU scored to bring the game to 2-1. Taking a number of shots on net, SDU was shut down time and again by Hilary and her outstanding saves.

In the last quarter of the game, Storm dug deep, tired at this point, without a break, and held off Stealth the remainder of the game, pushing the ball back into their end. A special shout out goes to Alice Clements who showed no fear and matched the visiting team’s aggressive style of play.

The dedicated group of girls has really come together this season. As a first year rep team, it has been remarkable watching their growth, positive attitudes and love of the game continue to develop. With only one regulation game left, the Storm will be sad to see the season come to an end. A huge thank you to our volunteer coaches, Eric Pinfold and Owen Schutz, who have led the girls through a victorious, fun and inspiring season.
