The azure blue water of Porpoise Bay was studded with white sails as Helen and Roy Wigard hosted the inaugural Poise Cove Laser Regatta July 13 and 14.

This year 16 sailors entered the competition with top honours going to Richard Starling, second place to Brian Fournier and third place to Denis Olson.

Starbucks donated coffee and treats for the skippers on Saturday morning as the boats arrived and were prepared for the day's racing. Conditions were excellent when the horn sounded to start the first race.

Sunshine and 10 knots of breeze made for some very fast sailing. After the first day of racing, Olson held a narrow lead over Starling.

Day two brought some very light air sailing conditions and Starling was able to take the lead while Fournier slipped into second when Olson was unable to start a race.

Poise Cove Marina would like to thank all the volunteers whose work made the regatta such a success and invites all interested laser skippers to enter next year's race on July 13, 2013.
