U15 Inferno brought home a 3-0 victory over the Breakers from Squamish on Sunday.
Squamish started the game strong and kept the Inferno on their heels for the first 15 minutes and if not for some outstanding goal keeping by Cass Armstrong, the game would have been a runaway for the Breakers.
The remaining 65 minutes belonged to Inferno. The defensive combination of Sophie Garmulewicz, Jackie Morris, Sarah Huddlestone and Sydney Downie was about as penetrable as a brick wall. As the game progressed, Kiri Dwyer, Maryah Paul, Morgan Downie and Caelen Reader carried the attack through the midfield with increasing intensity and dazzling skill.
Mid-way through the first half, Anya Kuling put the first goal in during a scramble in front of the Breaker's goalie -a scramble that unfortunately resulted in Morgan Downie receiving a game-ending knee to her thigh. The inferno would now have to play with no substitutes.
The second goal came from a deadly accurate free kick by Sydney from an impressive 22-yards out, delivered to the top right hand corner of the Breaker's net.
Despite her desire to compete, Caelen's game ended early in the second half due to a knee injury. The Inferno would now have to play short-handed. However, for those watching the game it did not appear to be the Inferno who were short handed.
The Inferno attack became increasingly relentless as the game neared the end.
Kayli Dunk (who displayed incredible foot skills under pressure), Talia Barnum and Anya strung together a multitude of impressive attacking combinations, but it was a through ball from Anya's thigh onto a charging Talia's feet, that led to a breakaway and ultimately a perfectly placed kick that very few goalies would stand a chance of saving.
