Special Olympics host basketball tourney

Special Olympics Sunshine Coast is playing host to a basketball tournament on Saturday at Elphinstone Secondary School in Gibsons. The tournament is slated from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Special Olympics Sunshine Coast is playing host to a basketball tournament on Saturday at Elphinstone Secondary School in Gibsons.

The tournament is slated from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow featuring two local teams and five visiting teams entered in two divisions.

The local Special Olympic rhythmic gymnastics group will be performing during the lunch break. We have volunteer referees, scorekeepers, First Aid and others helping to run this event. The public is invited.

Hockey Day

This Sunday, Jan. 16 is Hockey Day on the Sunshine Coast.

Join in on the fun at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre for a day of great hockey in support of the Sunshine Coast Minor Hockey Associations bid to make the Sunshine Coast Kraft Hockeyville 2011.

The Pee Wee C2 team starts the day off at 9:30 a.m. against North Vancouver, followed by the Atom Rep Blues versus the Vancouver Thunderbirds, at 11 a.m. then the Pee Wee Rep Blues versus Vancouver at 12:30 p.m., then at 2 p.m., the Bantam Rep Blues play host to Richmond.
