In Special O news, Gibsons and Sechelt basketball athletes met for a spectacular game on Dec. 7 at the Gibsons Elementary School gym.
The matchup was between mixed teams comprised of Sechelt and Gibsons athletes (White vs. Blue). As in any Special O game, the main focus was to have fun and implement skills. New Sechelt athlete Destiny Wallabaum sunk hook shot after hook shot, the first of which was preceded by a magnificent pass from fellow Sechelt player Derick Pye. Another terrific play was the beautiful three-pointer basket by Sechelt player Brandon Lacey.
Coaches from both teams were asked about their goals for 2018. Gibsons coaches Samantha Giampa and Laurie Miller explained that they are hoping to find a fitting tournament for their athletes while continuing to work on individual skills and team play. Marylin Downey and Sheena Macdonald, coaches for Sechelt, said that fitness will play a role in 2018 and so will having fun.
The game ended with all involved feeling accomplished and exuberant. Truly, that’s awesome!
