Start to finish, no one could catch Sechelt's Kris Sneddon and Barry Wicks.
The Kona Factory team dominated the epic open two-man team competition, winning every stage to claim their second straight BC Bike Race title in Whistler last Sunday.
The duo finished with a seven-day total of 16:41:25, well ahead of the second place team Nativo/Devinci Marty Lazarski and Ricky Federau, who finished at 17:41:23. After rolling through Sechelt on Wednesday, July 6, the racers made their way through the trail network in Roberts Creek last Thursday and into Langdale. Then it was a ferry ride to Horseshoe Bay and a bus trip to Squamish, where the race resumed last Friday in Squamish. The Kona boys finished that leg in a time of 2:29:16, increasing their lead even further.
"I felt a little tired after Sechelt, so it's nice to see we can still hang with the leaders," Sneddon said following the sixth stage in Squamish. "As a team, we're trying to stick together and watch out for the solo guys, who are plotting against each other."
"The climbs felt good for me today, and the descents were awesome," Wicks added.
Saturday's conclusion in Whistler was a shorter day for all the competitors, with the Kona boys rolling into the Olympic Plaza in a time of 1:25:04.
