The Sunshine Coast Skating Club’s skater of the month for October is John Mailey.
John is 12 years old and is in Grade 7 at Halfmoon Bay Elementary School. He says he loves skating because he loves the challenges and speed. His favourite thing in skating is when he does the stroking class because he gets to skate fast.
When John is not skating he likes to go mountain biking at Connor Park and the Coast Gravity Park. He also likes to work on his bike and go biking with his friends.
What the coaches say: “John was the Regional Champion in Star 4 boys in February in Delta and won the silver medal in Star 4 boys at the VI Super Series Competition in April in Parksville. He passed three Skate Canada tests and travelled to Powell River for ice while none was available on the Coast. John is fearless, loves skating fast and taking a risk. He will be competing in November at Jingle Blades in Surrey. Keep up the good work, John!”
