Skater of the month

Sunshine Coast Skating Club

Congratulations to Hanna Matsumoto, 12, the Sunshine Coast Skating Club’s newest Skater of the Month.

The Grade 7 student at Kinnikinnick Elementary School is currently one of the higher qualified STARSkate program members.

Skating director Lesleigh Farr had this to say: “Hanna recently passed 11 Skate Canada tests during our recent club test day! She is moving into the competitive stream in Juvenile Ladies for the upcoming 2015-16 skating season. Based upon winning her Star 4 event at regionals, she was invited to participate in the 2015 BC/YK Section Development Camp in Kelowna April 3 to 5.”

Hanna said: “It was really fun and I learned so many new things, it was awesome.”

Hanna has an excellent work ethic, takes any and every opportunity to get on to the ice to practice, is polite and respectful, ambitious and motivated, and very coachable. She is a good role model for the up and coming skaters. She will be training in Korea from May to August, as there is no ice available on the Coast.

Hanna loves the jumps in skating, and one of her favourite things about skating is learning new spins. When she is not skating, she likes to hang out with friends and loves studying and playing musical arts.

Congratulations, and keep up the great work, Hanna!
