Skate sharpening day benefits stopconcussions.com
Break out your dull hockey skates, as this Saturday, Oct. 20, is the day to take them to be sharpened at Trail Bay Source for Sports in Sechelt that will be donating all of the day's sharpening proceeds to stopconcussions.com.
Participating Source for Sports locations across Canada are supporting stopconcussions.com, an education and awareness hub for all sports that addresses the growing problem of concussions in sports. More than 5,000 pairs of skates are expected to be sharpened to raise funds for stopconcussions.com.
Skate Sharpening Day is just one of the ways that Source for Sports is opening up the discussion about concussions.
Visit the Head Zone where staff will be happy to check the fit and condition of your existing helmet or help you choose a new helmet that's right for you. Remember - the right helmet is the one that fits you best.
And while you're there, ask for a stopconcussions.com brochure that will help you better understand the signs and symptoms of a concussion.
A wet Hope Alive Run
Despite the heavy rains, the Hope Alive five km run, two km walk took place last Sunday (Oct. 14) in Gibsons where 30 enthusiastic athletes took part to inspire and celebrate community fitness.
All proceeds were donated to Chiropractors with Compassion, an organization that funds feeding and schooling programs in Africa and the Dominican Republic.
Doctors Ron and Jody Pashkewych of New Hope Chiropractic would like to congratulate all participants and thank all their local sponsors for their generous donations towards the successful event.
"As chiropractors, it is nothing but joy to celebrate people's personal victory in their health and fitness goals," Jody said. "We are so grateful to be part of a community where we can come together to encourage each other every step of the way."
