The Sunshine Coast Skating Club wrapped up their regular season with a fabulous year-end performance night at the Gibsons arena March 20, showcasing CanSkate, junior academy, StarSkate and adult skate members.
The national anthem was beautifully sung by Colin Mailey and the entire event was covered by the Coast TV team as well as photographed by Justin Samson of Coast Reporter.
Junior academy skaters performed their skills and were assessed by guest judges similar to what would happen in a competition environment. The skaters did a fabulous job and were rewarded with a report card assessment as well as a ribbon for participation.
CanSkaters showed off their skills to Crocodile Rock, complete with crocodile helmets, while adult skaters Ray Konrad, Shannon Maclean and guest skater Gila Hartges performed some beautiful ice dances, including the Viennese waltz.
StarSkater Grace Court showcased her Dutch waltz which she will be testing next week and StarSkaters Madison Welch and Caitlin Jarvis performed solos.
The grand finale was a fun number set to Gangnam Style.
Professional coaches Lesleigh Farr, Daryl Austman, Brenda Harkin and Anita Flay were on hand to ensure everything went off without a hitch.
Thanks to Coast TV and all the participants and parents for a wonderful evening.
Up next for the club was spring test day on April 2, and coming up is the annual general meeting on April 27 at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre.
The skate club is actively recruiting for the 2013/14 board. If you are interested in volunteering, contact a board member for more information.
The skate club will also be participating in the extended two weeks of spring ice at the Gibsons arena. There is still room for skaters in the CanSkate and StarSkate programs.
