The Sunshine Coast Skating Club had seven skaters representing the club at the recent WinterSkate competition in Delta.
Caitlin Jarvis and Jaymie Capron competed in both interpretive and competitive events, with Jaymie coming in seventh in introductory and Caitlin fourth in gold interpretive, qualifying her for PacificSkate StarSkate Provincials in Cranbrook where she placed 11th overall.
Madison Welch competed in the StarSkate women's pre-preliminary 10 and under category for the first time, placing ninth. Elleni Antoniou and Elisabeth Lyle earned silver assessments in the performance category,with bronze assessments going to Maya Moudahi and Beres Clements. Beres also earned a silver assessment in men's performance category at the Spring Fling Competition held at the PNE Agrodome last weekend.
A performance night was held on Tuesday, March 15, with teachers, principals, family and guests of the EXCELSport and Performance Academy skaters coming to watch their students perform. On the same night, the Junior Academy program held an 'in-house' competition with all skaters receiving assessments from guest judges.
CanSkaters also had an opportunity to show off their skills to parents and grandparents in the bleachers. Ray Konrad, an adult skater with the club, did a dance demonstration, partnering with Madison, Jaymie, Marilyn Butt and Caitlin.
Next up for the club is a two-day learn-to-skate program in conjunction with the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD). Anyone interested in trying out skating can contact the SCRD for more information. As well, the annual general meeting is coming up in May. The club is always actively recruiting volunteers.
