Sechelt couple win bronze in Utah

It's an old axiom - work hard and you'll be rewarded. That was true for Louise Parker and Bob Mackie from Sechelt who took home two bronze medals in the square dance competition at the Huntsman World Senior Games on Oct. 8 in Utah.

It's an old axiom - work hard and you'll be rewarded.

That was true for Louise Parker and Bob Mackie from Sechelt who took home two bronze medals in the square dance competition at the Huntsman World Senior Games on Oct. 8 in Utah.

"We had a wonderful time dancing with skilled square dancers and talented ballroom dancers," Parker said. "Winning two bronze medals for Canada really makes us feel like fit and healthy athletes that can compete with the best. It's exciting to dance to world-class square dance callers that play upbeat modern music with their complex and challenging choreography."

The Huntsman World Senior Games is a world-class, Olympic-format, international sporting event for athletes ages 50 years and older. Founded 23 years ago, the Games currently hosts more than 9,500 athletes annually. Each October, for two weeks, the event is held in colourful St. George, Utah. At the 2009 Games, athletes competed in 26 different sports. The Games hosted participants from all 50 U.S. states and 20 different countries.

"One of the things that makes this event so unique is that it is more than just a collection of sporting events," said Kyle Case, Games CEO.

"The Games is a total experience, so much more than just another sports competition. We'd like to invite athletes of all skill levels, from the elite to the novice, to experience this amazing event. Once you experience the Games, we know you'll have a great time, and we'll be seeing you for years to come."
