After a day of rep tryouts at Kinnikinnick Park, the Sunshine Coast Youth Soccer Association turned its focus to the Coastal Cup quarterfinals with the Sunshine Coast Scorpions facing off in Sechelt against the Vancouver United Predators.
Early in the game, with a pass from Bradley Huddlestone, winger Quintin Towert got inside the box and one timed the ball, but the Vancouver keeper stopped the shot. The Predators midfield were shadowed by Philip Fogarty and Gabe Goerzen, and "last man back" Tristan Tidder cleared the ball out of the Scorpions zone.
The Scorpions midfield fed the ball to Keegan Inkster, who sped through the defence and beat the goalie with a decisive shot.
Winger Finn Rogers used his speed and skilled passing ability to set up the Scorpions offensive push.
Duncan Armstrong, Jordan Kammerle, Liam Rankin and Justin Fodchuk helped to maintain the Scorpions offensive dominance in the game. Evan Griffin, Cole Cooney and Ben Luporini were forceful in stopping the Predators wingers from advancing.
Goalkeeper Xavier Benjamin was solid, getting another shutout, and the final was a close 1-0 final for the home team.
The Scorpions play this Sunday (April 22) in the Coastal Cup semi-final, at 11:30 a.m. Kinnikinnick Park.
