A scheduling anomaly found the Scorpions playing the Richmond Lightning three weeks in a row in rep soccer action.

On Oct. 19 in Richmond, the Scorpions faced some adversity early.

Defender Liam Rankin and his check jumped in the air to head the ball, and collided. Liam had to be carried from the field, and was later diagnosed with a leg fracture.

As Liam left for the hospital, the Scorpions had to regain their composure, shuffle positions, and refocus.

Jordan Kammerle scored the first goal on a penalty kick. Everett August was the Man of the Match. He took a corner kick that arced perfectly into the top far corner of the Lightning net, scored on a penalty shot, and provided determined support to the defence.

Keeran Peel was alert, making saves in close on several scrambles, and calmly scooped up all the long balls in the 3-1 win.

On Oct. 26 the Scorpions returned to the same field, for their first cup game.

On this day the Scorpions were missing five players, two were playing injured, and one was playing sick. This meant many players had to play new positions, which proved to be a struggle in the 5-0 loss.

The last game between the two teams was at Kinnikinnick last Sunday, Nov. 3.

Although missing both centrebacks with injuries, the rest of the team was healthy, determined, and ready to play.

Jordan and Justin Fodchuk looked comfortable at centre back, assisting regular fullbacks Cole Cooney and Evan Griffin. Philip Fogarty joined Neil Sorensen and Finn Rogers on wing, and Ben Luporini joined Quintin Towert and Duncan Armstrong at forward.

Quin and Ben both had chances, but Duncan scored both goals. Keeran made some timely saves in the 2-1 win, which kept the Scorpions in first place.

U11 girls

Sunshine Coast Storm played hard and came away with a victory against the West Vancouver Spuraways on Sunday, Nov. 3.

It was a beautiful day and the girls responded to the sunshine with enthusiasm and teamwork.

Goals from Mary Wood, Royal Lumley and Faye Duffy combined with stellar goalkeeping from Koenn Sauer and Olivia Tulk helped secure the win.

Both Mya Yakasovich and Piper Goerzen played a strong passing game feeding balls to wingers Teagan Sweet and Paige Clucas who carried the ball speedily through the midfield. Leela Fernandes, Pippa Boothroyd and Ella Campbell were strong on defence and were first to the ball time and time again playing the ball back up the field.

House League

It was a very cold rainy day for the match between Blue Thunder and Green in U15 boys.

Green came on strong in the first half and really challenged Blue Thunder.

Jacob Lacasse-Young was very quick on his feet and was able to stop many opponents. Gavin Lynagh made some great blocks. Liam Watson was a force to be reckoned with earning him MVP for Green. Griffin Shields was MVP Blue Thunder.

Griffin made some great runs up the field and placed himself perfectly scoring off a great assist from Quinn Girard. Ethan Bezaire was moving well on the forward line and nearly scored a couple of times for Blue Thunder. Ethan's teammates Nofa Messner and Dylan Broeke showed great speed and helped support their team. Dylan's efforts also resulted in the first goal of the game.

Green's goalie Sebastian Horabin made a number of great saves in the Blue Thunder win.

U10 girls

It was some tough conditions on the pitch for as the Halfmoon Bay Orange Crushes hosted B Red at Waterfront field.

Both teams fought hard through the pouring rain.

While the Crushes claimed the victory after Gracey Hemstreet, Julia Molina and the speedy Sharlene Johnson shook the net, B Reds did not give up getting a pair of well-delivered goals. While the shots kept coming, the little spark plug Isabella Paolozza was on fire pouncing on anything coming near her net, which kept the B Red's strong offence at bay.
