The U12 Scorpions prevailed in their season finale with a hard-fought 5-4 victory against the North Vancouver Surge in the North Shore Cup gold finals.
Competitive from the outset, both teams battled hard for possession.
Scorpion Quintin Towert scored the opening goal, and North Van responded in short order by driving two of their own into the Scorpion's net.
At halftime, the Scorpions were unnerved and their defensive game was suffering. Refocused, the Scorpions emerged in the second half, only to be confronted with another two goals from the Surge.
Down by three, the Scorpions came blasting back to their senses. A quick succession of splendid goals from Justin Fodchuk, Philip Fogarty and a free kick that hit its mark by Grayson Perrier tied the game, and the Scorpions were on the offense.
At the end of regulation time, the teams were forced into an overtime shootout. Following a series of five shots on goal per team, the Scorpions came out two shots ahead. Players and coaches basked in glory and the crowd went wild. Congratulations on a fine season, Scorpions!
