With a second victory in as many weeks, the U13 Scorpions upheld their fiery undefeated status in rep soccer league action with a 4-0 triumph over the visiting West Vancouver Spuraways last weekend.

When faced with the immediacy of the Scorpions' splendid one-touch passing and superbly tireless play from Finn Rogers, Ben Luporini, Cole Cooney, Tristan Tidder and Evan Griffin, the Spuraways appeared to be thrown a little off balance.

Quick to sense a breach in the Spuraways' defence, the Scorpions poured on the heat.

Bradley Huddlestone kicked off the Scorpions' shutout with a withering penalty shot into the Spuraways' net, and Duncan Armstrong followed that up with an unstoppable shot, bringing the score to 2-0.

Xavier Benoit-Benjamin generated invaluable scoring opportunities, and with the assistance of some well-placed passes, battled his way through the Spuraways' defence to score. Working well with teammates Quintin Towert, Philip Fogarty and Gabe Goerzen, Keegan Inkster dropped the hammer on the Spuraways' keeper with a blistering one-timer.

Keeper for the Scorpions, Jordan Kammerle, held down the fort, neutralizing innumerable Spuraways' attacks and shutting down their offensive efforts.

Antilla shows well with Sharks

Joe Antilla's first pro camp was a memorable experience.

The junior from Madeira Park picked up two assists in the San Jose Sharks' prospects 6-1 win over Calgary last week in Penticton. The Sharks lost 2-0 to the Winnipeg Jets and 5-3 to the Vancouver Canucks in the Sharks' other games.

Antilla flew down to San Jose for a couple of days with the big club before he was released back to his Western Hockey League team, the Kootenay Ice, where he is getting set for his final season with the league champion Ice.

The right-hander fell to 10-13 following a 3-2 loss to the Houston Astros on Sunday, Sept. 18.

Dempster pitched seven innings, allowing the three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

In his other recent outing, Dempster dropped a 2-1 decision to the Cincinnati Reds on Sept. 13.

Dempster again pitched seven innings, but had no run support. He allowed six hits with six walks and two strikeouts.

Dempster will pitch again today (Sept. 23) in St. Louis and may get the nod in the Cubs final game of the season on Sept. 28 in San Diego.
