The Sunshine Coast Scorpions continued to battle flu and injury and went into their last league game with a depleted roster of only 12.
Their determination paid off last Saturday, however, as they won their final league game 5-1 over the West Vancouver Spuraways to clinch the league title.
Jordan Kammerle scored three goals, while Liam Rankin added the other two for the U13 champs in the Gold Division of the 4 District Soccer League.
The Scorpions went undefeated in league play. To put this in perspective, there are 59 U13 boys rep soccer teams in Vancouver, the North Shore, Richmond and Burnaby, and the Scorpions were the top team, in the top division.
This one win was part of an outstanding effort over an entire season by the whole team: Duncan Armstrong, Everett August, Xavier Benjamin, Cole Cooney, Justin Fodchuk, Philip Fogarty, Gabe Goerzen, Evan Griffin, Bradley Huddlestone, Keegan Inkster, Jordan, Ben Luporini, Liam, Finn Rogers, Tristan Tidder and Quintin Towert. Coaches Rod Kammerle and Rob Huddlestone dedicated a tremendous amount of time to develop, train and lead the boys.
Last but not least, the co-operation and support of the families of these boys was instrumental in the success of the team. Congratulations to the entire Scorpions family.
The Scorpions league season is now complete, but they still have a tournament during spring break, and the Provincial B Cup series begins at the end of March.
