Charlene SanJenko, fitness entrepreneur and owner of Coast of Sunshine Fitness in Gibsons, recently competed in the Western Canadian Bodybuilding and Fitness championships in Kelowna.SanJenko had a great competition, placing third in her middleweight division.

The show and her pre-contest training for months beforehand proved to be the perfect opportunity to "practice what she preaches."

In March, SanJenko, along with trainer Ben Smith and friend and fellow bodybuilder Katie Duncan, launched a competitors' club at Coast of Sunshine Fitness to give other athletes on the Coast a chance to train and compete in bodybuilding events.

"It's been four years since my last bodybuilding show, and it felt good to get competitive again," said SanJenko. "It was a tough show and quite tricky to balance the contest prep with running our growing business. However, I did it for my clients - to inspire and motivate them - and to put my biceps where my mouth is."

Her attention now turns whole-heartedly to her clients and the members of the Creators Competitors' Club as they prepare for their competitions in August and September.

She continues to work towards her goal of qualifying for the World Bodybuilding Championships in 2007 and representing Canada as a natural athlete in 2008.

"As a fitness facility owner and personal trainer, is it easy to tell clients what they need to do in order to achieve their fitness goals, but you also need to show them," she said.
