Local student athletes attended the  BC Provincial Track and Field Championships the weekend of June 8 to 10.

From Elphinstone Secondary School:

Aoife Murphy competed with a stong headwind and rain and finished 15th.

Harris Marshall finished seventh in the senior boys discus, fourth in hammer and 18th in shot put.

Daniel Grant competed well but did not advance to the final eight. He was one of the few junior boys in Grade 9 to compete in the hammer event.

Aoife Murphy had qualified for triple jump but could not compete due to a dance competition – she was favoured for the top eight.

Jack Marshall, the weekend before at the provincial multi-event meet, battled through a first day injury to win gold in the decathlon – a ten-event, two-day competition.

From Chatelech Secondary School:

Ryder Seabrook, a Grade 12, placed fifth. Making it through to the finals of the 800m was the goal and he accomplished that easily. In the finals, he ran a gutsy race pushing not just himself but everyone else to their personal best times. Ryder’s time in the 800m was 1:57 which was 4 seconds faster than his previous best.
