Roberts Creek Elementary School surprised the secondary schools last weekend as they captured first place at Chatelech Secondary School's annual Jackie Branca Memorial Grade 8 girls' volleyball tournament.
Eight teams participated as Roberts Creek and Pender Harbour brought one team each, while Elphinstone, Oceanview and Chat each fielded two squads.
Roberts Creek lost only one of the 14 games, that to Elphinstone Black, who lost only two of theirs and took second place.
Oceanview Orcas from Powell River nabbed third place. Both Chat teams showed vast improvement since the beginning of the year and displayed great passion during their white versus blue game for Slushies.
Pender's fearless six fought hard to finish sixth, but the weekend belonged the Roberts Creek who showed great teamwork and what dedicated practice can accomplish. You might even see a few Kyla Richeys in the mix in the years to come.
Overall, a fun was time had by everyone.
