Richey scores big at golf nationals

Connor Richey was named male athlete of the week at the University of the Fraser Valley last week after helping lead the men's golf team to the Pacific West silver medal and a berth at the CCAA national championship tournament in PEI.

The first-year Roberts Creek native shot 146 over the two days to place fifth overall. He was also one of the four Cascades in the weekend's top 10 at the tournament.

At the nationals, he won second place in the long ball competition while the Cascades team came in third overall.

Richey has been a member of the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club for five years and is their current junior champion. He was also a member of the Elphinstone Secondary School golf team for five years before he graduated last year.

Arduin named player of the week

The Geneseo men's ice hockey team got off to a hot start in conference play over the weekend, with a 4-3 overtime win against Buffalo State and a 2-1 victory over Fredonia.

Senior David Arduin from Halfmoon Bay finished with two goals and two assists as Geneseo stands atop the leader board with four points.

Down 3-1 to Buffalo State, Arduin netted a power play goal at 13:40 of the third period and then assisted on the equalizer with 0.09 seconds remaining. In overtime, he was right back in the action picking up an assist on the game-winner just 17 seconds into the extra frame.

On Saturday, Arduin scored the game-winning goal at the 3:46 mark of the third period to give Geneseo the win over Fredonia. He has scored a goal in each of the team's three games this season.
