Roberts Creek's Connor Richey has qualified for the 2012 Canadian Amateur Champ-ionships next week in Ottawa, but he needs a little help from the community to get there to compete.
Richey estimates it will cost around $3,000 for airfare, accommodation, entry fee, transportation and food. He has worked at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club in the pro shop for the past six years now.

He qualified after a strong showing at the B.C. Men's Amateur Championship that wrapped up last Friday in Pitt Meadows. Richey fired a round of 77 Thursday and a 75 on Friday to finish at +12 and a five-way tie for 19th.
In other golf news, Sechelt's Jacob Bland shot a two-day score of 162 to finish 18th in the boys 14 to 16 division at the most recent Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour event at the Harvest Golf Club in Kelowna.
Calling all Coast slo-pitch teams
Looking for a great off-Coast tournament to end your season? Why not head to Squamish and the Andrew Pereman Memorial Tournament Aug. 18 to 19 sponsored by the Eh Team Vancouver Ball Club.
Pereman was an active softball player in the Squamish league and on the Vancouver Eh Team. He died in a workplace accident earlier this year, leaving behind his wife and two young daughters as well as many teammates who miss him greatly. All proceeds from this tournament will be going into a trust fund set up for Pereman's daughters.

BC Summer Games update
In last week's (July 27) story on the BC Summer Games, Halfmoon Bay's Avery Struck finished 11th overall in the individual competition, and won a bronze medal in the team competition. That results information was not included on the BC Games website when Coast Reporter went to press last week.
