Roberts Creek's Connor Richey finished in 48th spot at last week's B.C. Junior Boys Golf Championship at the Birchbank Golf Club in Trail.

Adam Svensson of Surrey fired a final round four-under-par 68 to claim his second straight championship.

Dempster wins before all-star break

After missing one start due to an illness and a bad back, Gibsons Ryan Dempster went into the Major League all-star break on a high note.

The Chicago Cubs right-hander pitched five innings, allowing only three runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts as the Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-3 last Saturday night. The win evened Dempster's record at 6-6.

Jays win in Ridge Meadows

The Gibsons Jays picked up a 5-3 win over the Ridge Meadows Mud Hens at Larry Walker Field in Maple Ridge last Sunday.

Ridge Meadows had the bases loaded with two out in the ninth inning in a nail-biting finish before Brandon Elsdon closed things out, having the batter ground out to shortstop to complete the game.

Leading the Jays at the plate were Elsdon with two doubles, Nate Petzold with a long home run, and Nick Pennington with two line-drive singles. Bird Brackett made a game-saving play in left field in the middle innings, while Van Murphy played an outstanding game behind the plate for Gibsons.

The Jays next games are in the 18 to 21 age Provincial Championships in Kamloops this weekend (July 15 to 17).

Coast riders attend summer camp

The Cycling BC downhill team held their first camp of the summer in Whistler on the first weekend in July.

Among those in attendance were Coast riders Forrest Riesco and Harrison Duxbury-Sleep.

Forrest, a junior expert team rider (who recently finished third at the Bromont Canada Cup), said of the camp, "The Cycling BC team training camp in Whistler this past weekend was a lot of fun and informative. Getting in so many runs up there was very helpful and allowed me to work on and perfect some things I needed to improve."
