A record 36 teams took to the ice last weekend at the Gibsons Curling Club for the annual men's bonspiel.
There were 29 teams from the Lower Mainland, two from Vancouver Island and five local rinks.
The A-final was a close contest between the Penonzek rink from Royal City Curling Club and the Challvorn rink from Duncan.
With the game tied after seven ends, skip Barry Meyer had the hammer in the eighth end, and when Challvorn came up light on an attempted draw around some centre guards, Meyer did not have to throw his last rock.
Team Penonzek (Meyer, third Kevan Penonzek, second Bryan Fitchell and lead Brad Zalys) are all previous members of the Gibsons Curling Club.
The B-final was also tied up after seven ends with the Meat Brothers #1 team from Royal City winning over the MacKinley team in the eighth after a failed raise attempt.
The C-final was between Tony Todosychuk, Ed Hill, Larry Koopman and lead Ken Brown from Gibsons against the Dean rink from Hollyburn, skipped by Bruce Campbell, third Jamie Dean, second Bruce Lounds and lead Pete McDonald.
This game went back and forth with several large ends being scored, but the team from Hollyburn was down three after seven ends. Todosychuk managed to catch just enough of the opposition's rock to take it out of play and eliminate them from getting the three points they needed to tie the game.
"Thanks to all the volunteers who helped out wherever needed and to Nadine Lowden for organizing the kitchen for the weekend, the banquet and all the Friday night food," said club spokesperson Juanita Wannamaker.
"This was a very successful event for our club and again thanks to Jared Wannamaker and the club volunteers and all the out-of-town curlers for coming."
