This Saturday, the Sunshine Coast Rapids Lacrosse Association plays host to its annual fundraising Junior B game at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre.
The North Shore Eagles will battle the Langley Warriors at 2 p.m. Admission is by donation. There will be a barbecue concession and a 50/50 draw during the game.
In regular league action last weekend, the midget Rapids lost 4-1 in Aldergrove to the Langley Thunder with Raven Wall scoring the lone goal for the Rapids.
Defensive determination by Matt Risebrough, Ryan Fraser, Cam Wray, Kalen Sheel-Alain and Travis Jacobsen helped goalie Goran Trokicic keep the goals against down. The team continues to demonstrate improving growth, maturity and discipline.
The bantam Rapids played two home games last weekend.
On Saturday, the Rapids shut out Mission 6-0 as Caymen Froude scored twice with Thane Huson, Keegan Inkster, Cody Angus and Justin Fodchuk each scoring once.
Sunday's game against the Delta Islanders was played with great determination and teamwork, ending in a 10-4 win. Four goals were scored by Justin, two each by Thane and Caymen, and singles by Cody and Grayson Bush. Liam Rankin had two assists with singles assists credited to goalie Andrew Risebrough, Caymen and Carson Wayment.
The pee wee Rapids played at home against Ridge Meadows.
Rapids goalie Noah Sheldon was a wall in net and managed to make countless saves. Jade Pratt worked hard to keep her team in the game as well as Matt Drope who had one goal. Adam Goepel also scored with Braedon Service scoring once and adding two assists including a perfect set up for Tommy Johnston to score in the last two seconds of the game for a 3-2 win.
Rapids homes games this weekend are all in Gibsons with a noon game Saturday against North Shore. On Sunday, pee wee plays New West at 9:30 a.m., bantam plays Semiahmoo at 11 and midget plays Mission at 1 p.m.
