The Sunshine Coast Rapids concluded the most successful season in the association's brief, three-year history last weekend.

Coupled with a fantastic Junior B game, the association's teams played their final games for this year.

The novice Rapids won a doubleheader last weekend edging Delta 9-5 and blasting Port Moody 13-2.

The team had an awesome season playing some fast action, hard hitting lacrosse, which was amazingly exciting to watch (considering they are eight and nine year olds). It was a huge team effort and all the kids played with great heart.

The team included: Liam Singleton, Ryan Christoff, Tevis Watts, Sam Devlin, Tyler Graham, Luke Hart, Erik Sawchuk, Brandon Reeves, Cam Peters, Blake Pearson, Ford Flumerfelt, Carlos Ibanez, Trevor Martin and Alex Ratcliff.

The players and parents wish to extend thanks to coach David Reeves and assistant coaches Ray Graham and Rick Pearson.

The pee wee Rapids split a doubleheader with Powell River on Sunday at Sunshine Coast Arena.

The Rapids won game one 8-7 and dropped game two 11-10.

Forrest Paton scored a hat trick and assisted on two other goals in the first game. Gunnar Wiebe singled on an assist by Jesse Miles. Erik Keyser scored a goal on an assist by a pick-up player from the Powell River squad. The Rapids had only six runners at game time so four players from the second Powell River team helped out.

By the time the second game started at 5 p.m. the teams were tired and it was extremely hot on the floor. The refs called water breaks throughout the game and the teams entertained the crowd again. Forresthad another hat trick with one assist. Gunnar and Erik added singles.

"Our teams exceeded our expectations this year," said association president Jessica Huntington. "The players loved having more games available to them and everyone had a wonderful experience."

Huntington said she feels this was the most successful year for the association.

"Player satisfaction has been great and the organization is moving along and maturing into a fully-fledged association here on the Coast. The sky's the limit from here," she said.

Registration for the 2007 season will start early next year. The Rapids will be fully integrated into the Lower Mainland league next year, which means regular season games, playing for points, tournaments and eligibility for provincial playdowns.
