The Langley Thunder rolled over the Sunshine Coast midget Rapids last weekend, winning the best of three round in two games.

In Langley on Saturday, the Rapids were thwarted by a fine goalie who stopped countless shots. Justin Macey was able to get one of his shots past in the first period, and Gabriel Chamberlain, assisted by Travis Jacobsen, earned one in the third. However, first place Langley dominated the Rapids with their superior passing skills.

During the return home game, the Rapids played an intense, disciplined game and were strong contestants. Goalie Goran Trokicic let in only four goals, thwarting Langley's offence.

Justin, assisted by Graydon Inksater, scored the only goal for the Rapids.

Much of the play was in the Langley end, but the Rapids were unable to convert their shots into goals.

Defensive strength was noted by Cam Wray, Ryan Fraser, Connar Peers, Matt Risebrough and Cody Broski.

The team has one more opportunity to earn a berth in the final tournament, in a consolation round which will be held next week.

The peewees are in Kamloops this weekend for the provincials.

Junior golf championships

Several junior golfers from the Sunshine Coast competed in respective provincial championships last week.

The junior boys were at the Revelstoke Golf Club where four players from the Coast competed. All four played in the first two rounds of the championship but failed to make the cut after the first 36 holes.

Trevor Smith of Roberts Creek fired a +11, just missing the cut by one stroke, Cam McCallister of Gibsons finished at +18, Jacob Bland of Sechelt finished at +22 and Keenan Flemming of Sechelt finished at +26.

The junior girls were in Langley at the Blemont Golf Course where Avery Struck of Halfmoon Bay finished in a three-way tie for 25th with a total four-round score of +36.
