Beaming smiles, cheering and laughter filled Hackett Park and the Sechelt Learning Centre's fields last Saturday, June 22.
Challenger Baseball players, their buddies, coaches and families from around the Lower Mainland came to Sechelt to participate in the Provincial Challenger Baseball Jamboree. This annual one-day tournament, held in a different community each year, brings together leagues from around the province. The program is for children with physical or cognitive challenges.
The Sunshine Coast league, the Mariners and the Angels, played host to 16 teams with approximately 500 people attending, 220 of whom were players.
Local Challenger coordinator and organizer of the event, Lennea Perpet, said the day went very well and the children were filled with excitement.
Ronald McDonald and Captain and Mrs. Canada were on hand to mingle with the kids with Ronald leading the warm up.
Perpet added the event was made possible because of the support from Bill Chao and Anna Colonna of McDonald's, the Lions Clubs from Sechelt and Gibsons, Direct Disposal, Star Tek Industries, Claytons Heritage Market and Sechelt Minor Softball.
She also acknowledges the volunteer ambassadors and others who supported the event.
