Predators win opener

The U15 Predators travelled to town to take on the North Vancouver Burrards last Saturday. The Predators carried the early play and opened the scoring after eight minutes.

The Predators carried the early play and opened the scoring after eight minutes. Andrew Strom sent a nice cross to Shale Douglas, who skillfully controlled the ball and found the corner with a hard shot.

The Predators had a number of chances to increase their lead including a breakaway by Matthew Brenholen

and a close in shot by Elvis Lu, but the Burrards' goalie could not be beat, so the score remained 1-0 at the half.

North Vancouver had a rare chance 10 minutes into the second half on a breakaway and they evened the score.

Predators controlled the play for most of the half, but could not find the net. Then eight minutes from the end, Andy Blattler sent Darryl Julius down the wing with a nice pass. Darryl's shot was stopped, but Shale was there to tap in the reboundfor a 2-1 Predators win. Jason Teitge, Lee Gye and Jacques Martique were strong throughout on the backline for the Predators.

U17 girls

The Sunshine Coast season opening game kicked off in Cloverdale on a gorgeous day with a tie 1-1. Rookie to the team, Koya Craig scored in the second half to even the match, assisted by the talents of Emma Carillo. With the addition of five new players new to the team, this year promises to be an exciting one for the Stingrays.

U13 boys

Sunshine Coast United may very well have put themselves in the local youth soccer history book in their first regular season match last Saturday, Sept. 12.

Demonstrating the confidence of a pride of lions, United prevailed in an astounding 14-0 victory.

With too many goal scorers to list special mention goes out to Will Johnston for his hat trick and excellent goals from Hamish Troup, Connor Lindsay, Reece Alcock, Griff Readerand Joel Dykstra.

In addition, the defensive wall of Bryn Davies, Trevor Julius, Jack Smith and Kevin Rossner in goal ensured that no shots were to reach the United net in the entire game.

United plays its first road game of the season against the Douglas Park Strikers in Vancouver on Saturday.

U14 boys

Primed with summer practice, the Spartans squared off in an exciting season opening 1-1 match against the Kerrisdale Dynamos.

After falling behind 1-0, in the fading moments of the first half, Gage Selmes, assisted by Josh Diamond and Coleton Windsor, ripped up left wing and evened the score for the Spartans.

The Spartans stayed sharp in the second half and for the remainder of the game, the Dynamos were held in check.

The Spartans' next game is on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Cliff Gilker Park.
