Playoffs just around the corner

The playoffs are almost here for the men's A-division hockey league. The regular season ends on March 7 with the first round of the playoffs set to start March 14.

A few games are left for the four teams and three of them, the Suncoast Flyers, Midway Power/Grasshopper Pub Hitmen and Roberts Creek Rangers, are all battling for playoff positions. The Inlet Raiders clinched first place a few weeks ago and will be the top seed when the playoffs begin.

In action this week, the Raiders tripped up the Rangers 5-2 last Saturday night.

Chris Young scored twice and added an assist while Dave McClennan scored a pair of goals. Tom Poulton added the other goal. Jarred Rutley chipped in with three helpers.

Justin Lynn and Rob Hopkins replied for the Rangers.

In the other game Saturday, a six-goal third period propelled the Hitmen to a 6-4 win over the Flyers.

Dan Fitchel and Trent Turner each scored a pair with Adam Nanson, and Jamie McPhail added singles. McPhail also added two assists, as did Brandon Waters.

Drew Johnson, Curtis Munsen, Callum Vaughn and Danny Baker scored for the Flyers. Mark Toynbee added two assists.

In doubleheader action Tuesday night, the Hitmen edged the Raiders 4-2 while the Flyers tripped up the Rangers 6-3.

Waters had two goals and one assist for the Hitmen, Fitchel added a goal and one assist while Bik Brar scored once.

Bill Stockwell and Rutley scored the goals for the Raiders.

Jordie Radymski scored a pair in the Flyers win, while Taylor Waters, Johnson, Connor McCarthy and Baker added singles. Munsen added three assists.

Hugh Rae, Gary Tetzlaff and Steve Change replied for the Rangers.
