A champion will be crowned this weekend at Hackett Park in Sechelt as the Sunshine Coast Men's Fastball League playoffs begin bright and early Saturday morning.
Games start Saturday at 9 a.m. with the final game at 5:45 p.m. On Sunday, action starts at 10 a.m. with the Beer Cup consolation final at 3:15 and the championship final at 5 p.m.
In the final week of regular season play, Lon's Gun Show beat the Gibsons Pirates 10-4 on July 29.
Steve Stevenson hit a home run for the Gun Show and Bailey Karloff hit one for the pirates.
The Lighthouse/IGA Brewers also beat Gilligan's Pub.
On Wednesday, July 31, Custom Carpet edged Gilligan's 11-9.
Gilligan's jumped out to an early lead, but after a team meeting on the mound and a heroic play at the plate by catcher Aaron Hately, Custom was able to stop Gilligan's from extending their lead.
Custom then got some timely offence courtesy of a Brennan Myers' home run. Matt Cookney had a stellar night defensively at third base along with the eventual go-ahead RBI to seal the victory.
In the other Wednesday game, Pirates beat the RJS Blue Jays 18-6.
Jasmine Nebocat had a solid outing on the mound and James Pomfret hit a big home run.
Over the long weekend, the Gibsons Coho Kings travelled to Squamish for the annual Loggers Sports Day fastball tournament.
The Gibsons lads were knocked out in the quarterfinals by the Squamish Wizards. The Richmond Mariners won the tournament, beating the SAR Majors 7-1.
