The Gibsons Pigs Men's Rugby Club is on a roll heading into the first half break.

Gibsons picked up its third straight win with an impressive 22-5 victory at home against the Scribes last Saturday. With the win, Gibsons improves its record to 4-3.

Gibsons took the lead just minutes into the contest and were never really challenged by the Scribes.

Albert Bezaire kicked the ball ahead and Steve Peal raced into the corner of the end zone and pounced on the ball for the opening try. Gibsons missed the conversion to lead 5-0.

Gibsons second try came about 10 minutes later as a good push from the front row enabled Chris Lumsden to just get the ball into the end zone. Again, the Pigs missed the conversion and led 10-0.

Both teams were awarded penalty kicks later on in the half, but neither team converted. Just as it looked like Gibsons would head into the half time break up by 10, Scribes managed to gain some yardage and pushed a score across with about five minutes to play. They also missed the conversion and Gibsons led 10-5 at half time.

It was a good first half for the Pigs as they controlled most of the play the first 20 minutes. They pounded through the gaps and seemed to win every ball possession.

Gibsons took full control of the game early in the second half, scoring their third try, which was a carbon copy of their first.Bezaire provided a great kick and Peal out ran the Scribes defenders for the score.

This time Bezaire converted the try and Gibsons led 17-5.

Steve Starbuck ended the contest with Gibsons fourth try of the afternoon late in the second half.

Following the game, Bezaire said strong defence was a key factor in the win.

"Everyone came to play today, especially the defensive players. They just won every ball when it counted," Bezaire said. "The offense will always come around, but when you limit the other teams scoring opportunities, it makes everything so much easier."

Bezaire said the team is playing great rugby right now and is full of confidence.

"We have a couple of key games left. If we can win them both, we have a pretty good shot at moving up a division for the second half," he said.

Gibsons will try to keep their roll going on Saturday as they hit the road for a game against the Rogues.

Gibsons gets a bye on Nov. 27 and then plays Kamloops at home on Dec. 5.
