This week in the women's league, the Pigs continued to run hog wild over opponents. With mom Jen Graham dutifully seeing to the defensive duties, sisters Kendra and Deven ran amok upfield, figuring in all five goals against the Blazers, with two breakaways from Kendra, a single from Deven, a cross from Deven converted by Katherine Andreas, and another by Andrea Unger.
At Connor, Source edged Fusion 3-2. For the Red She-Devils, Andrea Aleong curved a corner kick into the net, helped by a tap from Claire McGillivray, while Melissa Rayfield got her groove back as she ran through a pack of defenders to score.
SitaFC got some more midfield magic from Eric Pinfold this week, as he was the wind beneath the wings of scorers Ken Campbell and Ryan Elphick, while keeper Glynn Cody flew across the face of the net like an espresso-addled tree squirrel to give Sita the 2-0 shutout.
At Connor, Greg Stinson put HMB ahead as he smacked home a free kick. However, CPU answered with a Fumi Takahashi hat trick, which repeatedly hit the side mesh with the precision of a Toyota engineer, a pair from Eoin Walker and a single from creeping fullback Pat Braithwaite. CPU also got great play up the right side from Barry 'Energizer Badger' Krangle, and Simon Hocking. With athletic new additions such as Colin Wright and Josh Beaulieu, captain Mike Cowie has all the necessary component parts this season to rebuild the Green Machine.
GPU's undermanned squad continues to out-perform. This week they showed up with a softball squad to face second place IFC. The nine men kept it close in the 6-4 defeat, and media liaison Mike Brown compared their performance to the 300 warriors who held up against the Persians. GPU goals came from Tony Duffy, Rich 'Gets Goals' Getzkow, Ian Armstrong and Trevor Shields.
Next Sunday at 10 a.m. at Ted Dixon, undefeated Bananas and IFC duke it out for first place. As Bananas striker Rod Kammerle said, "There can be only one."
