Pigs come out flat against Scribes

The Scribes came to the Coast last Saturday for a game against the Gibsons Pigs. It was a lovely day for a game, which started on schedule, but it looked as if the home side was still in bed.

The first half was spent mostly on defence as the Scribes constantly pressured a disorganized Pigs' side. The pressure finally paid off as the Scribes scored two tries.

The Pigs picked up the pace a bit and made it a little more entertaining before the half. On a positive note, a couple of young lads are filling some cleats and positions on the field.

Dan Kinne is playing prop admirably and Rob Van Norman is helping out in the engine room at second row.

The Scribes started the second half as vigorously as the first. The Scribes took advantage of some sloppy tackling by the Pigs, pounding in a couple more tries to put the game out of reach.

Gibsons tried to get things together, but were lacking a coordinated offence and a disruptive defence.

As time was running out, Ty Brackett and Nate Robinson worked a nice chip and chase to the corner of the endzone for a Pigs' score.

Overall, lacking practice and passion, it was not a great performance by the Pigs. Down at the clubhouse, the mood was a bit brighter as the visitors got a good hosting and lost the boat-race in short order.

On Dec. 3, Gibsons heads to Capilano with a possible home game on Dec. 10 against the Kats.

Practices are still Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Sechelt and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Cedar Grove Elementary School. Call 604-740-7163 for more information about the club.
