The Sunshine Coast Arena was home to some great hockey action during the Christmas holidays.
The annual Turkey Bowl holiday tournament was fast and competitive.
According to Tom Poul-ton, arena programmer and tourney organizer, the goaltending was "awesome" with Colin Page and James Hamilton home for the holidays and Morgan Walker and the tournament best goalie Trevor Garrett also putting on a show.
"The midget rep team stayed home this Christ-mas, so with players like Shane Newcombe, Cody Haikonen and Graham Marsh competing hard, that in itself made the games very fast with incredible passing and plays," Poulton said.
Joey Antilla, Mike Ondzik and his friend from Squamish, Konrad Sander, topped off the Notre Dame boys team for the tournament. Joey is attending Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Saskatchewan and is in his second year at the school playing hockey and continuing his education.
"We tried to keep the teams as requested as a reunion with friends and family," Poulton added.
The tournament final was between the Notre Dame boys and the midget rep team with the rep team coming out on top 7-3.
Cory Bergnach was named tourney MVP with four goals in the final game. Cody Haikonen was also very impressive throughout the whole tournament.
"I would like to thank the minor hockey team managers for stepping up to the plate and helping promote this tournament to the players Without their help the tournament probably would have been cancelled," Poulton said. He also thanked Dave Nagel for helping out as a referee for the event.
