Tracy Parker, the Sunshine Coast Skating Club’s (SCSC) adult skater, just returned from the ISU Adult International Figure Skating Competition in Oberstdorf, Germany where she placed fifth in her category.
“The whole experience was exhilarating!” Parker said. “The village of Oberstdorf in the Alps of southern Germany was idyllic, the event was monumental, the competition was stiff, and meeting the other skaters from so many countries was so much fun – something I will never forget!”
SCSC congratulated Parker for representing herself, the club, the Sunshine Coast and Canada so well at the international competition.
“Tracy is self-motivated, sets the bar high for herself, is a great role model for all skaters,” the club said in a statement. “She is respectful and supportive of her professional coaches. Tracy came back to skating after a long time off the ice and has had to train hard to compete at an international level with skaters from all over the World. Tracy is a great example that skating is a ‘skill that lasts a lifetime.’”
The ISU competition for adults hosted more than 600 athletes from 35 countries.
Watch for a CBC documentary, To The Worlds, which follows a group of adult skaters from the Okanagan to the same event Parker attended. The documentary will highlight some “deeply personal reasons for lacing up late in life.” It will air in January 2019.
