Outlaws take over second place

After spending most of the season in the basement, the Powerclean Outlaws have finally seen the light. The Outlaws moved into second place in the Men's A-division hockey league standings with a pair of wins last week.

The Outlaws moved into second place in the Men's A-division hockey league standings with a pair of wins last week.

With only a week to go in the regular season, the Outlaws have 24 points, the Suncoast Flyers are in third with 23 points, and the Rangers are fourth with 21 points.

The Rangers and Flyers played their last regular season game last night (Friday) past press deadline, while the Outlaws play their last two games against the first-place Inlet Raiders tonight (March 13) and next Saturday, March 20.

The Outlaws started the week with a 7-3 win over the Rangers on Friday night, March 5.

Adam Mercer, Darren Pollock and Trent Turner all scored a pair of goals, while Bik Brar added a single. Lance Durkin and Nathan deBoer each added a pair of assists.

Glenn Allen, Hugh Rae and Aaron Hamilton replied for the Rangers.

The Outlaws were back at it the following night and dropped a 5-1 decision to the Flyers.

Blair Patterson scored the lone goal for the Outlaws, while Drew Johnson, Sean Davie, Ryan Paul, Cody Upsen and Cody Munsen scored for the Flyers. Paul also added three assists.

The final game of the week for the Outlaws was Tuesday night. They rebounded with a 3-0 win over the Rangers.

Colin Large, Jeff Schwingenschloegl and Jamie McPhail scored the goals, while Cory Hergott picked up the shutout.

In other action last week, the Raiders skated to an 8-4 win over the Rangers on March 6 and beat the Flyers 7-2 on Tuesday night.

In the win over the Rangers, David Arduin had three goals and two assists, Pat Thorburn scored twice, while John McLeod, Mike Yarrow and Tom Poulton added singles.

Tom Bailey and Chris Campbell each fired home a pair for the Rangers.

Thorburn had a big night again on Tuesday, scoring three goals, while Bill Stockwell scored twice and added three assists. Arduin and Bryan Poulsen also scored.

Munsen and Davie scored the lone goals for the Flyers.
