Lacrosse fans were treated to a fast-paced exciting Junior B contest as the North Shore Eagles beat the Langley Warriors 8-5 last Saturday afternoon at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre.
The game was an annual fundraising event for the Sunshine Coast Rapids Lacrosse Association.
In Rapids league action last weekend, the midget squad lit up the scoreboard with back-to-back wins.
Saturday's away game in Delta saw Justin Macey, Raven Wall and Gabriel Chamberlain each score a pair. Matt Risebrough found his way to the scoreboard for the first time this season in the last few minutes of the third period, and Jacob Huson and Max McDicken each added one goal, as the Rapids beat the Delta Islanders 9-4.
The Rapids played an intense home game on Sunday against second place Mission, thrilling the crowd with their deft passing skills and 10-goal effort.
Gabriel led the way with an opening goal seconds into the game, followed by a second goal later in the period. Justin and Jacob completed the four-goal first period.
Gabriel earned himself a hat trick with a third goal in the second period, with Jacob scoring a second time. Max scored one of the goals, and Ryan Fraser scored his first of the season. Raven picked up two goals in the third period, and Matt scored for the second time that weekend. Mission fought back hard, steadily closing the gap, but were held to seven goals by goalie Goran Trokicic.
Thwarted from scoring, Connor Dempster, Wesley Konopasek, Cam Wray and Graydon Inksater were all credited with assists.
The bantam Rapids played Delta to a 4-4 tie with Justin Fodchuk scoring all four goals. Caymen Froude and Colton Smith added assists. The tie game was a great accomplishment considering the Delta team had 17 players to the Rapids' nine.
The peewee Rapids played top seed North Shore on Saturday.
Braedon Service opened the scoring only to see North Shore tie it up early in the second.
With four minutes left in the game, Rapids received a five-minute major penalty allowing North Shore to score the winning power play goal in the 2-1 win.
Rapids' goalie Noah Shel-don once again staved off at least 50 shots. His skill and determination have him with the best goals against average in the whole league.
Sunday the Rapids dominated New Westminster 11-1 with four goals by Adam Goepel, three from Tommy Johnston and singles by Matt Drope, Braedon, Christ-opher Risebrough and Elann Billbach. Noah, Elann and Braedon also picked up assists.
The peewee team has advanced to the playoffs to try to secure a spot in the provincials.
