The newly named Sitahs Sistahs inaugurated their first match with a win, though it was old diehards Koree Rogers and Delia Envoldsen who struck the net. Rogers tucked a gingerly little tap into the net, while Envoldsen's goal was anything but nice and little as she sprinted up a ball at centre and perfectly hammered it the length of the defenders' field into the net. Crystal Campbell also played well against her old Yayas team mates.
This week Blazers beat Source 2-1, twice. Wednes-day's match saw Ashley Taylor and Jen Bridgeman with goals, while Sunday's strikers were Taylor again and Christine Campbell.
After Sita's gave up double digits to middle of the pack CPU the week before, and IGFC took out their first place contenders, no one expected the 1-0 Sita win over IGFC this week. Sita's mercurial keeper Rich Getzkow could be seen hollering and waving his arms before the match, and the Sita's squad came together and caught fire.
A note to league strikers: there's a new defensive sheriff in town, and his name's 'Constable' Chris Lekakis.
Sita's midfielder Matt Pense also played his best match in a decade. After Sita's Adam Nanson scored, Sita's had their hands full with high-powered pressure from Dan Muir, who this week won the nationals with the men's BC team, and Tom Bidding, formerly of the successful Sechelt Pegasus team. In the dying seconds, Muir lasered a bullet for the far top corner, that was stopped by Getzkow as the flying Frenchman it away.
Offside bookmakers were still reeling from the lopsided result, and Craigs-list will probably see a few new Acuras listed this week.
After the loss, IGFC remains top dog with 10 points, with CPU, HMB, Ridgepoint and Sita's all nipping at their heels tied with 9.
Meanwhile HMB and CPU kept up their scoring. HMB took Chiefs 8-3 with three from Jesse Morantz, two from Aaron Folk and singles from Glenn Hafey, Nate Wade and Greg Stinson.
Meanwhile CPU got a little payback from the Bananas who ousted them in the last two semi-finals, with a 7-0 win, with four goals from Fumi Takahashi, three from Eric Pinfold and Kenny Campbell.
