New programs offer lots of choice

Several new athletic programs are now being offered for all Coast youth through the Sunshine Coast Spirit of Excellence.

Weights with pros runs Tuesdays from Nov. 6 to Dec. 11 for boys grades 8 to 12 at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Jamie Crosby and Canadian champion Dal Ghag will teach high school boys how to lift weights and shape their bodies with safe technique and healthy lifestyle.

World mountain biking champion Holly Feniak will be running two programs for beginners and advanced bikers.

On Sunday, Nov. 11, there's a clinic for advanced mountain bikers ages 10 to 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. on challenging trails. Participants are asked to meet at B& Road at the parking lot at the power lines to learn skills such as jumps, cornering, body positioning etc.

On Nov. 18, Holly will present an introduction to mountain biking for beginners ages 10 to 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. teaching basic techniques on easy trails. All participants are asked to bring their own bike, helmet, gloves, knee pads and water bottle.

On Monday, Nov. 12, there will be two basketball camps at Chatelech Secondary School in Sechelt: a girls camp for grades 8 to 12 from 9 a.m. to noon and a boys camp for grades 8 to 12 from 1 to 4 p.m.
