Next weekend, May 28 and 29, the Sunshine Coast Drag Racing Association (SCDRA) is hosting its first public race of the season. New for 2016 will be a motorcycle class.
To enhance the motorsport experience on the Sunshine Coast, the SCDRA executive and membership are thrilled to be including a motorcycle class for the May race. Club president Tony Petula reports: “It’s going to add some excitement to the weekend and we’ll see how it goes. If we like what we see, the membership will decide if we’ll run the bikes again at the big race in August.”
The SCDRA continues to support the community and work closely with the three high schools on the Coast. Members are currently volunteering at Chatelech Secondary, helping the students enrolled in the ACEIT program prepare their race car.
During the Sunday awards presentations, the Ted Meldrum Memorial Award will be presented to a Sunshine Coast high school student who demonstrates a mechanical aptitude, dedication to motorsport, volunteers in the community and is supportive of school programs. Previous winners were Ryan Macdonald and Matthew Bentley in 2015, and Robert Rhodes in 2014.
Cash prizes are available for all race classes. Race classes are: Street Machine, Super Street, Street Rod, Hot Rod, Motorcycle and Exhibition.
There will also be cash for the driver with the best reaction time in eliminations, the car with the fastest ET (estimated time to cross the finish line) in eliminations and the nicest burnout of the day.
