The Midget House C1 squad capped an incredible regular season in style on the weekend when it was awarded the banner in the league division.

The team maintained its first place position throughout the season, finishing with a 17-1-2 record.

Congratulations go to all the players and coaches on a job well done.

It has been an exciting season being able to watch an exceptionally talented house squad play, according to the House C1 manager.

"All the players showed up for all the games at home and on the road - they were committed from the start," she said.

"Congratulations also go to our other Midget House C2 team. They came fourth overall in the league. It is nice to see our house teams do so well at the midget level."

The good news continued for the team on Sunday as they opened up the playoff with a win. The Midgets blasted Hollyburn 7-2.

"It was a good game from the whole team," said coach Nick Bergnach. "Eldon Chernowsky in particular stood out in my mind, and overall, I was very happy with the team's performance."

Six teams in the top half of the draw have made the playoffs, with teams playing each other in a round robin. The two teams with the best record after the round robin play off for first place.

The Midgets head to Whistler on Sunday and then return home to play the C2 Sunshine Coast team on Monday night. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Sunshine Coast Arena.

The Midget House C2 team also won their first playoff game last weekend.

Bantam repThe Bantam A Rep Blues finished off league play with three games in three days earlier this month. They collected seven out of eight points (teams get a sportsmanship point for low penalty minutes), so the Blues won three sportsmanship points during the weekend.

"This is a big deal for this team," said manager Colleen Vaughn. "We've been known for high penalty minutes all season, so the boys controlled themselves very well."

On Feb. 4, the Blues picked up a 3-2 win over Chilliwack.

Graham Marsh, Brady Bjornson and Cam Graham scored goals with assists going to Dagan Benner with two and Brandon Kohuch with one.

Next up was a game in Ridge Meadows on Feb. 5 where the Blues lost 5-2.

Michael Gray and Cam scored goals with Colton Vaughn picking up the lone assist.

The Blues finished off the weekend with a 4-2 home win on Feb. 6 against Langley.

Brandon and Michael each scored a pair of goals with Cam picking up two helpers. Colton, Brady, Shayne Newcombe and Michael Ondzik were credited with single assists.

The Bantams start the playoffs tonight (Feb. 18) in West Vancouver then play at home on Sunday night at 5:30 p.m. against a to-be-determined opponent.

Peewee repThe Peewee Rep Blues team dropped its first playoff game 11-5 to Arbutus last weekend. The Peewees have now been relegated to the President's Series for the next round of the playoffs.

As of press time Thursday, the team was still trying to finalize its schedule for the weekend.

Midget repThe Midget Rep Blues were off last weekend, and head to Hollyburn for a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday.

If they win both games, the Blues will go into the final four playoff round.

"The boys had an excellent skating practice and the coaches were impressed with their hard work ethic leading into the playoffs," said media liaison Jac Cawsey. "All I can say is wish us luck this weekend. I hope to have some positive results next week."
