The Midget house hockey team completed their season last weekend in fine fashion, capturing the Capilano Banner.

The Midget squad, sponsored by Clark Hamilton and coached by Eugene Kelly and Jerry Mercer, travelled to Squamish on March 6 on a mission to claim the banner.

That mission was successful as the Midgets toppled North Vancouver 5-0.

After battling through a scoreless first period, the Midgets got on track in the second period.

Cam Clayton started the Sunshine Coast team off with a clean goal from the blue line at 8:41, assisted by Andrew O'Hearn and Danny Baker. Dwight Joe followed, scoring three goals at 1:24 of the second and 12:10 and 3:24 of the third period to put Sunshine Coast up 4-0.

Assists were credited to Lyle Dixon, Baker and Max Kelly.

Baker was able to slide one more in before the final buzzer with 41 seconds left in the game. Strong team play by all the boys made for an exciting game.

Winning the banner was particularly sweet for the team, as they will be graduating several players this season, including Brock Mercer, Myke Sinclair, Cam Clayton, James Hamilton, Joe and O'Hearn.

Team Manager Jeannie Juillette would like to thank all the parents for being supportive, Els Mercer for the sewing talents and Linda for always being there.

Special note to first year Midget players Donavan Craigan and Tyrone Joe-Mays - with your determination and love for the sport you're going to excel from here on up.

The team ends their season with a spring break tournament in Abbotsford this weekend.
