Despite a disappointing loss to Mission last Saturday (May 25), the midget Rapids returned to their home arena on Sunday to thrill the crowd with a 5-2 win over the North Shore.
The intense first period aggression that threatened to shift into unruliness was later channelled into competitiveness and athleticism, which ultimately earned the Rapids their second win of the season.
Goaltender Cody Broski, playing for his first season, had an impressive performance, stopping countless shots. Connar Peers scored twice, with singles by Graydon Inksater, Raven Wall and Max McDicken.
The Rapids now have a record of 2-1-1 having also won on Sunday, May 19, 6-3 over Delta. Raven scored twice in that game, with singles by Connar, Graydon, Wesley Konapasek and Gabriel Chamberlain.
Bantam
The bantam Rapids played the Semiahmoo Rock in White Rock last weekend and dropped a close 3-2 game. Caymen Froude and Liam Rankin scored for the Rapids.
Peewee
The peewee Rapids had an impressive 6-0 shutout win against the Langley Thunder over the May 18 and 19 weekend.
Braedon Service scored four for the Rapids with singles by Chris Risebrough and Austin Pratt.
Last Saturday, the Rapids posted another shutout, 5-0 over New Westminster with goalie Noah Sheldon looking impressive in net.
Elann Billbach scored twice with singles by Tommy Johnstone, Jake Podgorenko and Chris Risebrough.
On Sunday the Rapids played the Delta Islanders and came back from a 4-0 deficit scoring three goals, but Delta held on for the 6-3 win.
The Rapids have several home games this weekend, with the peewee team playing the Burnaby Lakers on Saturday, June 1, at 2:30 p.m.
On Sunday, the bantam team hosts the Langley Thunder at 11 a.m. followed by the midget team hosted the North Shore Eagles at 1 p.m. All three games are at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre.
