Bethia Macey's midget lacrosse team had a strong start to the regular season on May 18 with a 1-1 tie against the Port Coquitlam Saints.

The game was scoreless until the second period when newcomer Max McDicken scored the first goal of the game. Rookie goalie Goran Trokicic was staunch in the net, making saves at critical junctures of the fast-paced and competitive game and preventing the determined Saints from getting a ball past him.

Trevor Julius, Wesley Konapasek, Ryan Fraser, and Matt Risebrough were formidable in their attacking game. Raven Wall, Jacob Huson, and Gabriel Chamberlain staved off the advancing Saints during a critical five on three penalty kill in the second period.

The Saints goalie's outstanding net-minding skill thwarted the Rapids time and time again. Justin Macey and Graydon Inksater were unable to score on their breakaways. Cam Wray, Scout Jagdeo, Kalen Sheel-Alain, and Cody Broski were also unsuccessful in converting their shots.

Despite dominating the game, Port Coquitlam equalized late in the third period.

Dempster continues to struggle

After knocking off the Toronto Blue Jays in early May, Gibsons Ryan Dempster is now winless in three straight starts.

Despite the Boston Red Sox beating the Minnesota Twins 12-5 on Saturday night, Dempster was long gone when the outcome went final. Dempster pitched 4 2-3, allowing five runs on eight hits with six walks.

He lost 12-4 to the Blue Jays on May 12 lasting only five innings allowing six runs on seven hits while giving up three home runs and dropped a 6-1 decision to the Twins on May 7 going seven innings in that game allowing four runs on five hits with eight strikeouts. Dempster has a record of 2-4 on the season.
