The crowd assembled for the Sunshine Coast Midget Blues went home disappointed Oct. 14 as the Blues lost 4-2 to the Hollyburn Huskies of West Vancouver.
The first period started slowly for the Blues as they were outshot 10-3 and had to face several short-handed situations, but stellar goal-tending by Garrett Devison held the Huskies off the score sheet.
In the second, however, the Blues were not so lucky and penalties led to two power play goals by the Huskies.
The crowd finally got a chance to cheer when Bradley Kohuch knocked in an Austin Clarke rebound, making the score 2-1.
The Blues found their skating legs after the goal, and dominated the rest of the period. But it was Hollyburn that answered back late in the second to make it 3-1.
Kyle Bergh then made the most spectacular play of the night.
With his linemates going off for a change, Kyle took possession of the puck at the Huskies' blue line, then with a blazing burst of speed skated in on three players and beat the goal-tender with a shot low along the ice just inside the goalpost.
Now it was Hollyburn's turn to take untimely penalties. Henry Telfer was tripped heading to the net, but despite intense power play pressure, the Blues were unable to capitalize on their chances.
The Blues next home games in Gibsons are against the Surrey Lightning, Nov. 3 at 3:45 p.m. followed by another game the next day against the Abbotsford Hawks Nov. 4 at 5:30.
Junior golf tour wraps
The final event of this year's Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour was held Oct. 6 in Langley with several Coast golfers finishing strong.
Sechelt's Keenan Flemming was tied for ninth with a score of 80 in the boys 13 and under division; Roberts Creek's Trevor Smith was tied for 12 with a core of 79 in the boys 14 to 16 division while Sechelt's Jacob Bland finished tied for 15th in the same division with a score of 80. Gibsons Cam McAllister finished 31st in the division with a score of 86.
