The three May sisters from Roberts Creek have just returned from the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) regional championships in Nampa, Idaho with excellent results.

Yelaina May, 18, riding her horse Hez Talk of the Town, had an exceptional show, winning the championship titles and buckles in six different classes and reserve champion in two others. Yelaina and her horse showed in eight different all around events - jumping classes as well as English and western flat classes. This is her last year showing in the youth division and her ability and experience are yielding great results. In 2008 she had the privilege of being chosen as a member of AQHA Canadian team and participated in the AQHA youth World Cup event.

Devon May, 14, and her horse Dee Dees Danny, had a strong showing in her English classes and won a championship buckle and also a reserve title against very stiff competition.

Tessa May, 12, and her horse Gayla Sellena, were attending their first ever regional championship. She had solid performances in all her classes with a great western horsemanship pattern and ended up winning a third place monogrammed blanket -a great effort for their first time out.

This show is the AQHA regional championship for region one which includes, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and B.C. With 700 overall entries in all the different categories, this is an amazing event to attend. Every two years it moves around the region (having previously been held in Oregon) and in 2010 and 2011 it will be coming to Langley, which will be the first time one of these championships has been held in Canada.

The May girls are looking forward to their next major competition, the upcoming Canadian National Championships in Red Deer, Alta.
