Three masters athletes represented the Sunshine Coast at the recent Canadian Masters Swimming Championships held in Kelowna over the May long weekend.

Lexa Pomfret, David Barnum and Sa Boothroyd swam as members of the North Vancouver Masters Club which allowed them to participate in relays and to accumulate points for the team competition.

Barnum competed in a variety of events and was pleased with two top-three finishes in the 50m and 100m butterfly.

Pomfret swam consistently throughout the meet, achieving personal best times in all her events.

Pomfret and Boothroyd both took up the challenge of the gruelling 400m freestyle race, placing eighth and seventh respectively. Collectively the three athletes came home with 13 top-eight finishes.

The North Shore Masters placed seventh out of 87 teams, their highest placing ever at the national competition.

It was Boothroyd's vision to join the North Shore group, and the weekend success bodes well for future collaboration. The athletes usually swim week days at 6:15 a.m. at the Sechelt Aquatic Centre, with Pender Harbour Seals coach Rob Hynd.
