The most successful season in recent fastball history wrapped up last Friday night with the Lighthouse Mariners retaining the league championship with a hard-fought two to one series win over the Blackfish Pub.

The most successful season in recent fastball history wrapped up last Friday night with the Lighthouse Mariners retaining the league championship with a hard-fought two to one series win over the Blackfish Pub. The final pitted the veteran Pub crew, featuring Steve Partridge, Glen 'Spanky' Hanchar, Pat Taylor and Colin Gatzke against the rookie laden squad of the Mariners, led by the league's best pitching and catching battery of Jim 'Weepee' Peers and Aaron Hamilton. The first two games were split 9-3 for the Mariners and the second one by the Blackfish by a score of 12-6 highlighted by a home run by Hanchar, setting up the final on Friday night before a standing room only crowd at Brothers Park in Gibsons.This game featured the best defensive ball of the final, ending in a 4-1 victory for the Mariners.The league would like to thank all the team sponsors for their support and would especially like to extend a huge thank you and a job well done to Kerry Eldred and his umpiring crew of Ron Baba, Chuck Bertrand, Ernie Barnum, Jim Gray and Jerry Bergnach. The Sunshine Coast Fastball League is one of the largest in B.C. and has received inquiries from at least one new team interested in joining next year.
