Maple Leaf Tour wraps up

JUNIOR GOLF

Two junior golfers from the Sunshine Coast finished strong at a pair of recent events as the Maple Leaf Junior Golf tour wrapped up in the Lower Mainland.

On Sept. 28, a fine fall day was enjoyed by a packed field at Belmont Golf Club in Langley, where golfers were competing for titles in eight divisions in the MJT Lindsay Kenney Classic One Day Fall Series.

“It’s encouraging for golf to see almost 90 young players come out at the end of the season,” said Neil Bidewell, tournament director on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour.

Gibsons Myles Killackey finished eighth in the juvenile boys division with a round of 85, while Sechelt’s Jacob Bland was fifth in junior boys after a round of 80.

The final tour stop of the season was on Oct. 4 at the University Golf Club in Vancouver, where a full field enjoyed a great course and beautiful weather in the MJT Nationwide One Day Fall Series.

Myles finished in a four-way tie for seventh spot after a round of 79.
